Old Town canvas/wood, diamond bolts, serial number #18837, 17'

The Old Town canoe with this serial number is 16 feet long so my guess is that you really have the Carleton canoe with that serial number which was shipped as an Old Town. This is a 17 foot long, AA (or top) grade, Carleton model that was shipped as an Old Town HW (heavy water) model with red western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between March and April, 1924. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on June 11th, 1925 to Amesbury, Mass. A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions,

Benson

Wow. I'm speechless.
The details are correct. Mahogany, cedar, etc.
Missing the floor boards, but have the wooden cleats to hold them. I will definitely be looking for a pattern.
I picked up this beauty for free, from a local advertisement. Luckily, I've been at carpentry for over 20 years, boats, my whole life, and generally love the boat building hobby.
Thanks again.
I'm sure to have more questions along the way to my August 15th completion date.
