Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hey everyone! I have my father's old canoe that my sister now has. I know dad probably had the info on it at some point, but I figured I'd look it up for my sister as it's hers and she doesn't have the info on it.
The number is 138891.
At least, that's what it looks like to these old eyes. Ha Ha. I've attached a photo of the number.

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 138891 is a 17 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, HW model with open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between December, 1943 and February, 1944. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on April 26th, 1944 to Newark, New Jersey. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/pricing-plans/join to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer this description doesn't match the canoe. Canoes with a family connection are always extra special. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
