I'd like the history info on my father's 16' Old Town Canoe. I remember he had it in the 60's....it looks like the serial # is 159485. Thanks for any help you may have for me.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 159485 is a 16 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Yankee model with a keel. It was built between February and April, 1953. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It was shipped on May 7th, 1953 to Lambertville, New Jersey. There was some significant damage so it was returned for repairs on June 18th, 1953 as shown on the back side of the card. The repairs included replacing the canvas, refinishing, and new paint. It was resold on September 3rd, 1953 to Old Orchard, Maine. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found by following the links behind the thumbnail images attached below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
