Hi, I have a 1928 Old Town sponson square stern rowing canoe which I purchased from
Maine Audubon Borestone Mtn. Sanctuary in 2002. In 2007 I had it completely restored.
the serial number is 91328 16 and I was wondering if I could get more info about it.
I believe it has one owner, Robert Thomas Moore from Elliottsville, Maine.
Thanks,
Joseph

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town with serial number 91328 is a 16 foot long, AA (or top) grade, square stern model with red western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats, a keel, outside stems, a floor rack, and sponsons. It was built between June and July, 1926. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July, 20th, 1926 to Bodfish, Maine. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match. Page 11 of the 1926 catalog at https://www.woodencanoe.org/_files/ugd/537308_655a1b74e6c9447fa5f7dbb462db50de.pdf has more information about this model. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks,

Benson

Cool, thanks a lot. I had thought that this canoe was CS grade.
A membership is warranted. A later write up will be submitted about
the characteristics I have found about this canoe.

Hoping you will consider bringing it to Assembly for all to see first hand.

Thanks for the invite but I see that to Paul Smiths College from Sebec, Maine is approximately 400 miles one way.
I highly doubt that I'm going to trailer this canoe behind my 1978 FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser for that distance, time and fuel
costs.

Nice boat, Joseph, and it would be great at Paul Smiths. Even if you don't trailer this one, consider coming. We travel 1400 miles each way to Assembly with a trailer-load of canoes. Others travel 2500 miles or more. There's got to be something pretty special about Assembly (there is!!!) to get people to do this.
