old town canoe serial# 10494-18

The Old Town canoe with serial number 10494 is a 17 foot long Charles River model and the Carleton canoe is 16 feet long Carleton model so those probably are not yours. My guess is that you have the Kennebec canoe with serial number 10494 as shown on pages 452 and 453 of volume two in the Kennebec ledgers. This was assigned to an 18 foot long Kennebec model type A with sponsons. It was planked by Swain on January 13th, 1916. The canvas covering and first filler coat was applied by Roy on January 15th, 1916. The second filler coat was applied by Lanc on June 28th, 1916. The keel was oak. The braces (thwarts?) and seats were map (maple?). These were both installed by Harris on Juny 22nd 1916. The original paint color was M Green (Medium Green?) and was applied by Mansell on July 24th, 1916. It shipped to Edw. (Edward?) Ouellette on August 8th, 1916. The original Kennebec records are stored at the Maine State Museum. I am unable to attach a scan of these records since their current policies do not permit any electronic reproduction of their materials.
