otca 173400 18 Guide

I just purchased an old town canoe (red sticker with black letters)
The number carved into the wood is 173400 18. I think this is a guide. it has sponsons. Can anyone give me more information on my canoe. Also some advise on how to re paint it. Thanks

The message at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?t=5834 has more information. Any good marine enamel paint should be fine and the can will probably have instructions about sanding the original surface to get a good bond.
