I own this canoe and am looking for information on this serial number. The fourth digit was stamped twice so it is either a "7" or a "1". Thank you!

Welcome and congratulations, my guess is that you have the Old Town canoe with serial number 175712 (since 175112 was assigned to a 16 foot long fiberglass canoe). This is a 13 foot long Light Weight model with a mast seat, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between February and March, 1966. The original exterior canvas covering was painted OT (Old Town) yellow. It shipped on April 29th, 1966 to Downers Grove, Illinois. A scan of this build record can be found below.

Benson - I am grateful for this info -thank you!!! This lightweight canoe has been in my family since 1966 - we used it at our summer cottage in Wisconsin. It provided countless hours of entertainment for us four kids and our friends over the years, and survived! I have fixed a couple of holes in the canvas under the guidance of Ralph Frese in Chicago (of Chicagoland Canoe Base -many years ago- who referred to it as a pumpkin seed) and recently lovingly transported it to my new home in Florida. I'm hoping to have it the water again soon. - Sue
