Hello,
Looking for information on Old Town canoe serial number 84459-18.
I recently rescued this canoe from a guy that was talking about cutting it in half and making bookcases out of it.
Relatively good shape and I plan on at least restoring it to the point that it is usable.
Thanks
Art

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 84459 is an 18 foot long, GS (Guide Special or utility) grade, Guide Special model with red western cedar planking, open spruce rails, birch decks, birch thwarts, birch seats, a keel, and outside stems. It was built between March, 1924 and June, 1925. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July 1st, 1925 to Weirs, New Hampshire. A scan of this build record is attached below.

This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Benson
