Old Town 52079 16 build record request

Thanks in advance!

It's funny how canoes find you once you begin to restore, build, or collect. I met a fellow a year ago at a local convenience store when I struck up a conversation about his Woodenboat window decal on his truck. Turns out he builds plywood prams and small sailboats. A year later he stopped by my barn last week where I was working on my Atkinson Traveler build. It turns out his neighbor had "an old wooden canoe" which he wanted to get rid of.... the neighbor decided he had no time for the project.

So.. here's # 52079 16:

The Old Town canoe with serial number 52079 is a 16 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, HW model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, and a keel. It was built between March and October, 1918. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on April 22nd, 1919 to the Trenton, New Jersey. A scan of this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the project,

Benson
