Can anyone provide the build date record for a 16' old town SN 22827? Thank you.

I have located a 16' OT mahogany gunneled canoe, SN 22827. Can anyone provide the build details and date please?

Old Town 22827 is an 18 foot CS grade canoe, which doesn't match your 16 foot canoe with mahogany gunwales, unless some drastic modifications have been made. Check the serial numbers on both stems. Posting pictures helps too... you may have a canoe by a different builder. There are builders who used short decks very similar to an old town, and many builders had five-digit serial numbers.

Old Town 122827 is a 16 foot AA grade canoe and might be what you have... check for that elusive extra one! If you live in or near Oregon, that's another factor to consider.

Old Town 122827 is a 16 foot AA (top) grade Otca model canoe finished August-December 1937. It has open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts and mahogany seat frames, a keel, floor rack and was originally painted bright red. It was shipped to Portland, Oregon, on May 9, 1938. A copy of this record is attached below-- click on it to enlarge it well beyond the original size of the card.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
