Welcome and congratulations, a fiberglass Old Town canoe would have a six digit serial number so you appear to be missing a digit. My guess is that you may have the Old Town canoe with serial number 179758. This is a 14 foot long FG (fiberglass) model that weighed 74 pounds. It was built in January, 1968. The original exterior gelcoat color was white on the deck and red on the hull. It shipped on June 13th, 1968 to Hydeville, Vermont. A scan of this build record can be found below.
This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/pricing-plans/join to donate or renew.
It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer this description doesn't match the canoe. Can you post a picture of the serial number? Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
