Curious about Wooden Canoes
Can someone post a build sheet, etc for this canoe? It has closed gunnels and mahogany trim and is in rough but restorable condition. Thanks

The Old Town canoe with serial number 83441 is a 17 foot long, AA grade, Charles River model with Western red cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, 30 inch arched mahogany decks, and mahogany trim. It was probably built in 1924. The original exterior paint color was white with a gold stripe and turned down ends. This would be similar to the design shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design27.gif which was later named design number 27. It shipped on March 12th, 1924 to San Francisco, California. It appears that this canoe was in Santa Rosa, California in June of 1972 when a copy of the build record was requested as shown on the back side of the build record. Scans of both sides of this build record can be found by following the links at the thumbnail images attached below.

These scans were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with your restoration,

Benson
