Wooden Canoe Maniac
Ok my 30 footer turned into a 25 when I got there. Also had a 16 footer hidden under it. Help with the numbers please. Both Old Town 170125 25 and 143623 16 . The 25 is in good shape needs restoration. The 16 is pretty bad. Thanks, Dave

The Old Town canoe with serial number 170125 is a 25 foot long War Canoe model with a keel, outside stems, and a floor rack. It was built between May and July, 1960. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It was shipped on February 21st, 1961 to Branchville, New Jersey.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 143623 is a 16 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Yankee model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, and a keel. It was built between December, 1945 and March, 1946. The original exterior paint color was maroon. It was shipped on April 3rd, 1946 to Newark, New Jersey.

Scans of these build records can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below. These scans and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have other numbers or manufacturers if these descriptions don't match your canoes. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
