Needing a build sheet for Old Town

Jeff M

Curious about Wooden Canoes
I’d like to receive the build sheet for an Old Town Canoe!

Serial # 127147

Thank you very much
Jeff in Iowa

The Old Town canoe with serial number 127147 is a 16 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with open spruce gunwales and a keel. It was built between March and June, 1939. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July 3rd, 1939 to Winton, Minnesota. A scan of this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson, yes that’s it! I had one years ago but misplaced it! At that time I ordered it straight from Old Town!
Thanks again
Jeff

Jeff,
if you didn’t already know, Border Lakes Outfitters was owned at least partially by famed author Sigurd Olson. He had interest in the business until around 1952 I believe. I purchased and restored a Border Lakes Old Town Canoe several years ago that was sold to
“Sigurd Olson, Manager, Border Lakes Outfitter” in 1935. Unfortunately I sold the canoe when cash flow became tight….I miss it.
i wrote a story about it for Wooden Canoe Journal.
I’ll see if I can attach it.
