Michigan Canoe/Boat Show

Norm Hein

Canoe Codger
Hey everyone its been a while since I've posted anything but I do take a look here everyday, stalking I guess it's called.
Anyway, I have been wanting to do a canoe outing with my brother in Michigan for a while but I am having a hard time convincing him that 6 or 7 days in the Sylvania Wilderness Area would be fun. He is more of the boat show outdoorsman. So that is why I am posting this note.
Does anyone know of a good wooden boat/canoe show in Michigan going on this summer. I prefer something that WCHA would be attending. Any input would be most appreciated.

Former Michigander,
Norm

Hey Dave,
That would be great for me for sure but it may bore my brother. He is not an outdoorsman whatsoever.
I was thinking more of an on the water wooden boat show that would also have canoes.
I goggled boat shows and there are plenty but I was hoping for a recommendation for one that would have
WCHA represented so I could meet some members or at least a good showing of canoes.

Hi Norm,

The Antique and Classic Boat Society and other organizations put on some great shows in many places including Michigan. You will see some fabulous runabouts and other motorized craft plus canoes and other smaller and non-powered craft.

These shows include:
Algonac on June 24:

Bay Harbor (which also has great cars!), also on June 24:

Boats on the Boardwalk in Traverse City, August 5:

Port Sanilac on August 19:

and Port Huron Sept. 8-9:

If you get excited about such shows, southern ACBS chapters also put on some great ones (and still others are sponsored by chambers of commerce and private entities across the south. For ACBS shows nearer home for you, check out the Dixieland Chapter, the Blue Ridge Chapter, and the Sunnyland Chapter. The first exciting show of the year is coming up in a week and half in St. Petersburg, FL (St. Petersburg Yacht Club Vintage Motor Classic), and then the first big ACBS show of the year (and one of the North American "big three") happens in Tavares FL from March 23-26.

Hope you're doing well,
Michael

Wow Thanks Michael! I didn't mean for anyone to go to that much trouble.
I keep waiting to see pictures of the White we traded for. How's it coming along?

Hmmm... it's still much as it was, unfortunately. I did get started on it but haven't gotten very far for a variety of reasons, but mostly because ground-up restoration of an old house and barns turns out to be a fairly big job. I do have the canoe where it's visible to me most days, though, as a reminder to get back to it. You recall that it needs tons of work, but it will be satisfying in the end. Hopefully before too long I'll get back on it and can send you some photos of progress. Have fun in Michigan and let is know if you get to any exciting shows.

Yeah I get it. I have two that I started 4 years ago and that's exactly where they are today, started.
Yes it does need a lot of work that's why I handed it off to you, but it will be cool when you getr done.
