MI Chapter "Paddle at the Presidents" April 28th

LOVES Wooden Canoes
The Michigan Chpater will repeat the Paddle at the Presidents event on Saturday, April 28th from 9am-4pm. This is at my cabin on Twin Lakes, two small 'no-motors' lakes near the town of Ludington. Last year we had about 15 canoes and 20 paddlers there....see photo below. I hope we get more this year. Directors Dan Miller and Rob Stevens have threatened to come this year. Dave Davidson has also promised to make the long drive to attend. There really isn't any limiting factor to how many can particiapte - there is plenty of shore line to 'park' canoes. So, please, any and all WCHA members are welcome to join with the Michigan Chapter at this event...not kidding. Let me know what questions you have...or email Debbie Darga, programs coordinator for the Mi Chapter at dmd421@comcast.net. There are some motel and rustic cabin accomodations nearby. It will be fun!

We are a month away form the Paddle at the Presidents and we are very much looking forward to it. April 28th 9-4.

Sorry

The Kimpel's will be in Louisana visiting our son's recent return (18th of April) from Afghanistan. We had such great time last year. If you have not been to Ken's cabin please go and visit! What a fun time! It was like going back to the 1940's! The wildlife was great. I loved the loons! We hate to miss this years gathering.
Have fun and post pictures for all!

Coming from far away...

Wendy, sorry you and John won't make it.

Hope mentioning a few that are coming a long way to this event won't jinx their plans... Dan Miller, Rob Stevens, Paul Miller and David Davidson have all confirmed they will attend.

I'm mentioning to make this event even more attractive to others considering the journey to West Michigan.

And show an encouraging example to those that might think this location is out of their traveling range.

This will be a lot of fun.
Bring your favorite canoe, but if that makes it difficult don't worry... there will be extras enough to share, just get there if you can.

Looking forward to the "Paddle at the Presidents". We had a fabulous time last year. If you are thinking you might like to come just plan on it because you won't be sorry. email Ken at:kenk@jjimporters.com or Debbie at:dmd421@comcast.net and let us know so we know how food to get. Hope to see you there!

Just some info about canoes I'll be bring to the event.

I will have with me 4 or 5 canoes that will be going into a display at the Marquette Regional History Center in Marquette MI. The display was orginized by Denis Kallery.

I will have with me my 16' Walter Dean Sunnyside Cruiser (pic 1), 16' W.T. Bush "Queens Canoe"(pic 1), 16' unrestored Peterborough wide board racing canoe(pic 2), 16' Wm English mod. 20 4 board racing canoe (bottom of rack in pic 3) and maybe a Morris with a sail rig.

All of the canoes will be available for you to paddle, some will take more skill and nerve than others.

I look forward to meeting you all.

Thanks,

Paul

Never thought I'd say this to a guy.... Nice rack! The copper pipe display stands are very nice also. If you have a pic of the triple empty please share!

Here you go.

I must give credit to a fellow WCHA member Scott Barkdal (not sure I spelled that right) from whom I borrowed the idea and customized a bit.

Today, Saturday April 28, is the Michigan Chapter's "Paddle at the Presidents" Ken Kelly's cabin on Twin Lakes. Even if we haven't heard from you, come on out. Don't mind the weather, the weather has always been great for our events.

Hope to see you there!
Debbie & Mike Darga

A good time was had by all. I'm looking forward to photo from anyone who did not forget to put the SD card in their camera like me. I did get a couple before the kodak filled up internally.

We had a fabulous time at Ken and Mary Kelly's "Paddle at the Presidents". The weather held out and not a drop of rain. The wind picked up a little while we were trying to do a group photo but everyone had a great time.
Thanks Ken, you were a wonderful host!P1010002.jpgP1010004.jpgP1010006.jpgP1010008.jpgP1010009.jpg

Paul Miller brought 5 canoes that he was taking to the Marquette Regional Center where Denis Kallery organized the display.

more pics at the President's.

Trying to line up for our group photo. (a little windy)
