Curious about Wooden Canoes
I am far from an expert

but I figured some one here could tell me who made this and when

looking for another project -

Could be an early long decked Old Town, but we need more pictures.

Close up of deck would help, plus stems, thwarts.

Have you looked for a serial number on the top of the stem?

Looks like a good project.

not yet

that the best picture I have from the seller, guess I will need to go take a look, i know it been glassed not sure what other issues I will find

its a 16 footer - i'd like to find something that that will be lighter to handle on my own than the 18 OTCA sailing canoe.

been watching for a small Penn Yan row boat -but they are scarce and people seem to think they were tacked with gold not copper :D

well it would not stay glassed. I am GUESSING that a canvassed 16 footer should go around 75 - 80 pounds - am I way off on that?

I was hoping the center trim on the decks would be an identifying characteristic.

as for that Penn Yan - he forgot to mention the good transom

I changed my mind,

Kennebec all the way.

But here are pics of a long deck OT.

Ref the fiberglass, depends how easy it might come off. Not always a deal killer.

All ufo's are Kennebecs until proven otherwise. The Penn Yan boat probably has enough cast bronze/brass braces to be worth $50.
