Have had this canoe since 1978. Put a new skin on it at that time - but, alas, that time has come again. It is skinned and filled. Now it is time to pick a color and I would love to bring it back to its origonal. Any info would be wonderful.

Hello--

Old Town 101581 is a 17 foot CS (common sense or middle) grade HW (heavy water) model canoe that was finished May-July of 1929. It has red Western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, birch decks, birch seat frames, birch thwarts, a keel, outside stems, and a floor rack. Originally, it was dark green. It was shipped to Albany, NY, on July 26, 1929. A copy of this scan is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Kathy
