I'm finally working on my found Old Town that has been in my loft for 27 years. I'm retired now and have time to work on it. Any info on serial # 166542 would help. I would like to restore it to the same color etc. Thanks.

Old Town canoe #166542 was a 15-foot, CS (or common sense) grade 50-pounder that was built in 1957 and shipped to Chicago. It had a keel and was painted bright (?) red.

The scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you and anyone else reading this will join or renew membership in the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Looks like "bright" to me too...

With your canoe having been stored half its life, there may still be some of the original color somewhere on the canvas (if its still the original canvas) that you could have matched-- I believe Kirby's will match any color.

color bright red

I kind of got the felling that it was red. When I found it rotting in my friends back yard it had been painted with a flat housepaint that was an ugly blue. I then strippped the bad canvas off and did see red but wasn't sure. Thanks for your help.
