LOVES Wooden Canoes
Good Afternoon! I have a chance to pick up a really sweet 16' AA grade Otca, that had sponsons originally, and was painted #4, both sponsons and original paint are now gone, question, is the tumblehome different on this mold for sponson vs. no sponsons? Will the hull look correct if I simply recanvas the hull the way it is now and restore as a non-sponson model (with the #4 paint job, of course!!!) Todd

Hi Todd,

The canoe should have a fine shape with or without the sponsons, assuming that there are no other issues (missing thwarts, broken rails, etc. leading to hull distortion). Sponsons were built on the canoe, so they conformed to the shape of the pre-existing hull. No reason at all not to go ahead with re-canvassing without the sponsons.

Michael
