LOVES Wooden Canoes
I am going to be looking for another canoe, not sure what I want yet, found this local, he said it was 15 ft, pre 1975, can't find the serial number, fairly cheap, haven't seen it other then pictures, not to keen on it, I do like other canoes but out here they aren't as frequent, shipping would be an option.

What does it look like to you? Woods? Kinda common looking.

A fifteen-footer is a nice size, and the canoe appears to be in good shape. Could be an easy boat to load up and paddle interesting little places. If you haven't seen it in person, then it's the seller who can't find a serial number and it could be an Old Town fifty-pounder. If an Old Town, the sn should be on each stem and you can post the number and get the build record.

It looks like an Old Town lightweight model from the late 1950s or early 1960s based on the decal and aluminum stem bands. The woods used probably would be like the ones listed at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/specific.gif or similar. The information at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?t=791 should help you find the serial number and http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?t=57 has some good suggestions about how to value it. The page at http://oldtown.wcha.org/parts.html lists the "SEAT CANE & SPLINE KIT (for one seat)" with part number 01.1332.1120 for $14.00 that you can get to fix the seats. Good luck,

Benson
