Hello, Leon,
Old Town 7490 is a 16 foot CS (common sense or middle) grade Charles River model canoe that was completed October of 1907 to February 1908. It has red Western cedar planking, CLOSED spruce gunwales, oak decks, oak thwarts, oak seat frames and a keel and was originally dark green. It was shipped to Milwaukee, WI, on February 15, 1908. The scan of this record is attached below-- click on it for a larger image. If you're unsure if this is the correct record for your canoe, post pictures and the many eyes who look at these posts will help figure it out. Your canoe should have the "standard" Old Town short deck, of the older style. Many of the old canoe builders used a serial number system with four digits-- that's why I'm pointing out some things to look for on your canoe.
This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at
http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See
http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and
http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.
It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
Kathy
