I have recently purchased a old town canoe serial number 120775 16. any info on this would be greatly appreciated. thank you

My wife and I just had an Old Town canoe restored that my in-laws have had in storage since 1958 when it was under the porch of the home they bought. It has serial number 93179 17 stamped in the stern. How can I link to the archive to find more information about this canoe? I have just joined the WCHA and sent a contribution to support your wonderful work. Thank you for providing so much information on line.

One of the people who have the records will be along presently with your information. They're probably all in their last-minute preparations for our annual Assembly, being held this year in Peterborough, Ontario, this coming week. Proper responses to your requests may be delayed a bit, due to this event, but they'll get here, don't worry!

And welcome to the WCHA!

Congratulations and welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 120775 is a 16 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Yankee model with open spruce gunwales, oak decks, oak thwarts, oak seats, and a keel. It was built between March and May, 1937. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on June 2nd, 1937 to the Prescott, Arizona. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
