15' Old Town

You may be missing a digit. The Old Town with serial number 14942 is 18 feet long and so is the Carleton with this number. Number 114942 is 17 feet long as is the Kennebec with number 14942. The numbers 149425 and 149426 are each 15 feet long but both have transoms. Can you provide pictures of the serial numbers and surrounding areas from each end along with the bow deck and interior? Thanks,

Benson

I haven't seen the canoe yet, my brother picked it up for me. Will check it out when I get it home.
Thanks

The Old Town canoe with serial number 149542 is a 15 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, fifty pound model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, and a keel. It was built between August, 1947 and February, 1948. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on March 2nd, 1948 to Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. A scan of this build record is shown below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that this canoe could have another number or manufacturer if the description doesn't match. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson
