How many of us have had this urge?

Interesting item. The response was obviously inappropriate but so was the offense. Sad that it takes extreme action (like rioting) to get attention to minority issues.
A special good word for the power boaters in the Minnesota Boundary Waters who are SUPER respectful of canoes. A grumble for the Tennessee River boaters who are oblivious to the near swamping of my canoe.

I think an important point is being over looked here. This happened in Fla. not N.Y. or Maine, if you get swapped or turned over there, you have the danger of snakes and gators. Shooting seems a little more self defense in this situation. Stop and think about it!

Sorry, Dave. Not buying that. I have turned over more than once while tripping in the Everglades. Some months tripping there in the backcountry each year . Not seen a snake yet in the canoeing areas. Stepped on a gator once, which promptly left.

Back to topic. I think just the thought of the penalty and the vision of not paddling because you are behind bars is enough to dissuade any rational being.

And I cannot bear to think of rusting brass tacks in Florida..sob.

Guys and Gals, It wasn't really meant to be a serious post! More of a commentary on the absurdity that we as a society live in. It is humorous in a way, (after all, the guy got shot in the a**), but the fact that the canoeist actually SHOT someone for swamping them, that is the absurd thing. While I am sure that simply flipping the bird would have been a far more appropriate response, accompanied by several comments on ancestry, I would not ever condone actually shooting someone.
