help canvasing and filling a Shell Lake rowboat

I always canvas boats by hand. If the transom is to be canvassed, the entire canvas is applied in one piece. The transom canvas is only cut where it doesn't lay tight against the hull. This is at the turn of the bilge.

You'll get a few variations of that. But remember if you allow a couple of feet of extra canvas on each end to canvas a canoe, allow 3 or 4 feet extra on the square /transom end.

I got an extra long piece of canvas. I expected problems.
