Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hello all, My name is travus. Ive always been a avid fisher and hunter along with hiking and camping, and have grew up that way. But only recently have i began to become interested in making and crafting canoe paddles, With hopes to someday make a canoe. Ive done a couple prototypes out of pine because its cheap and easy to work with they werent anything to be amazed by. But am starting my first laminate paddle and searched for tips and walkthroughs but found little. I have not thoroughly how ever searched this forum so i registered so i could do so and ask a bunch of questions also. I do have a one person canoe and a slightly bigger fishing boat. But am looking into just getting a nice two person one. So i can take my fiance and eventually are lil boy with us. Hope to get to know you guys and thanks for all the info. Will be posting shortly after this in paddle making lol.

Hey Sonic!
Welcome to the site! I'm in northern Wisconsin. If there is anything I can help you with in regard to wooden canoes, drop me a line.
Dave

Welcome to the WCHA.

There are a bunch of people on the forums who make paddles, so any questions you have are sure to get an answer.

You might start by going Geoff Burke's information on paddle building: http://www.wcha.org/build_restore/paddles/burke.html

If you haven't seen it already, you should also get a look at Canoe Paddles: A Complete Guide to Making Your Own -- by Graham Warren and David Gidmark -- available from the WCHA online store -- http://store.wcha.org/Books/?page=2 -- and from other booksellers, and maybe your local library.

And we love to see pictures of what our members are doing -- we'd love to see your work in progress and your finished paddles.

Greg
