Square stern canoes were the answer to outboard motors when they became available. As motors became heavier and more powerful transoms and hulls were widened to carry the weight and higher speeds. This launch built in the 20's seems to be a transition from square sterned canoes to the modern run-abouts built for speed and power.
When rebuilding began a layer of fine silt was found on the underside of the deck which suggests the boat spent some time upside down on the bottom of the Russian River.
