Decal question

Ok I've restored alot of canoes , but i've never thought of the decal on the brass plate. I'm doing a 15 foot old town square stern now and it has the decal on a brass plate screwed to the deck. (oval plate). I've seen this before I think on newer models. Not sure what year this is yet. Probebly from the 50s. Is there a reason or a specific year Old town did this or is it even correct ? Any thoughts ? thanks , Dave

The oval brass name plate tags weren't created until 1979 as shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/covers/large-79.gif when they were featured on the catalog cover. The WCHA store has the correct decal for an early 1950s canoe at http://store.wcha.org/Old-Town-Decal-1906-1954.html and a late 1950s one at http://store.wcha.org/Old-Town-Decal-1956-1978.html if you want to go back to the original style. Thanks Benson, It looks just like that but does not have a space for a serial number on it.
