Water slide decals

I’m ready to apply a replica Od Town decal on the deck of a 1941 Square Stern.
The decal I have has a blue covering over it. I recall that there was a new process for applying these newer decals, however I can’t remember what the process is. Can anyone help?

I did one recently, within 6 months. I thought the decal slid off onto the deck and then afterwards the top protective film could be removed. Does that make sense. I bought two just in case and did not need the second one. It may be in the barn along with the instructions. Let me know if you need me to go out there and check. You know my number. No snow here.

I left the protective sheet on overnight and decided that was wrong! Put a warm wet cloth on it and was able to remove it.
I think you are correct that the protective sheet comes off after the decal is placed.
