Color code on 1913 Charles River

Hi, I'm kinda new too identifying or reading code on the original record, but just got my hands on serial # 26557 17. I am planing on restoring the canoe too as close too original as possible, but having trouble identifying the color code as it reads something like... hek R.? Any ideas? Im assuming the "R" stands for Red. Any help is appreciated.

dark red. (drk)

Dark red, yes. It's a D and a k... and the D is very open and loopy. It helps to have had to read doctors' handwriting.
