Coaming height?

Curious about Wooden Canoes
I am constructing the coaming for a sailing canoe (decked). I would like to keep the height of the coaming as high as possible for spray etc protection, but yet it cannot be too high re: wind resistance as well as more importantly a comfortable level to paddle over. Currently the front paddler has about 15 inches from the hull to the rim of the deck. The rear paddler has about 13 inches. I am considering a 2 inch high coaming ie 15 and 17 inches. The seat will be about 1 inch thick so the effective distance will be 14 and 16 inches. Will this height allow both comfortable and effective paddling?
