Chestnut Canoe

Blue Viking

Wooden Canoe Maniac
Does Chestnut Canoe Company have any records of serial numbers and if so does this site access them?.......Serial number on this canoe is # 15 01 YUP thats all it is....... 15 01 .... It was built for a Swiss family witha summer residence on Squam Lake in NH somewhere around the Late
5o's or early 60's. Thats all the information that was available to me. It is described as 16' long by 36" wide and has a height of about 12 3/4" to thwart or 13" to top of Gunwales... Has a shoe keel and seems to have a 30" inch "Rocker" on each end which would allow the stems to rise above the water by about 4-5" at each stem (not sure of the correct term for that "rise" on each end)
Thanks

Sorry, no records from the Chestnut factory are known to survive.

Your dimensions are consistent with those of the Pal/Deer, except that is very extrem for a rocker. The Prospector, which has more rocker than the pleasure models, only has about 3" rocker. Of course, a lot depends on where you measure it, as the curvature of the stem complicates things...

The Pal was widened in 1961 to 36" from 34". It had narrow ribs through 1967. After that, the Deer had narrow ribs, while the Pal reverted to wide ribs.
