Canadian Canoe Company id 50 1460

A friend has a lovely Canadian Canoe Company canoe model 50 serial #1460. I believe that means model Prospector, no idea what age the canoe is based on the serial number. I read in an earlier post that the Peterborough and the Chestnut Canoe Companies merged to become the Canadian Watercraft Company in 1923 and that company acquired the Canadian Canoe Company in 1928. Can anyone tell me if the Canadian Watercraft Company continued building canoes under the Canadian Canoe Company name after the acquisition in 1928? If not, that would mean this canoe is made in or before 1928. I am trying to get a rough idea of the age (and value) of this canoe for my friend. thanks, from "out west".

Canadian Canoe Company Model 50 was a 16' Pleasure model, known as the Special Canvas Canoe or Chinook model. It was built on the 16' pleasure canoe form, but had lighter canvas than the standard pleasure canoe.

As an entity, CCC survived until 1961.

Yes, - I am lucky enough to have a signed and numbered copy of that book, that I located in my archives after my initial post. I think it cost me $10! A trove of information.

That is excellent news! Especially at that price...this book is now out of price and goes for a LOT more than that on the used book lists.

Ken Brown is a terrific fellow and gave our WCHA chapter a guided tour of the various canoe related locations in downtown Peterborough a few years back. He is a fount of local history and canoe industry knowledge. Great guy.
