One of the last...
Hi RC--
Old Town 165740 is a 16 foot CS grade Yankee model canoe, finished between December of 1956 and February 1957. It was fitted with a keel, painted bright red and shipped to Nichols Hardware Supply Company of Dearborn, MI, on May 22, 1957.
As you may know, 1957 was the year Old Town retired the old Otca form and began using the Yankee form for building the new short-decked Otca-- which is essentially a Yankee. So, this Yankee may be one of the last Yankees to be called a Yankee.
For those interested in additional interesting historical information on Old Town canoes (and others), you may use the "search" function above, and/or read Susan Audette's book,
Old Town, Our First Hundred Years.
The scan of the record R.C. requested is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at
http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that all who read this will join or renew their membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See

Denis Kallery was raised in Dearborn, MI, not far from the place where Old Town 165740 was shipped.
