Curious about Wooden Canoes
I was asked if I wanted this old canoe free for thetaking or it was going to the dump.. it is in pretty bad shape I looked for a serial number and though pretty worn out I believe the number is 28464.
thank you for your help

The Old Town canoe with serial number 28464 was a 17 foot long, CS grade, Otca model with open spruce gunwales, maple decks, maple trim, and a keel. It was built between September, 1913 and February, 1914. The original exterior paint color was dark red. It shipped on April 9th, 1914 to Lancaster, Penna.

A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail image attached below. This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve this information is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the project,

Benson
