1974 Tremblay - Wide Deck?

I've just started restoring this one, was told it was a Tremblay and it has a Tremblay-ish number stamped under the bow deck. But... the inwhales stop at the the decks. The decks measure wider than typical for 16' Tremblays. I haven't seen anything like this configuration anywhere else and it doesn't really look like it was done after the canoe was built. The previous owner had replaced the Virolite 10 years previous to selling it to me and had replaced outwhales with some thin material that didn't work out. I'm thinking I'll install new inwhales (they are cracked and need replacement) to the stems and trim the deck widths to fit. Anyone got any other ideas??

Thanks Dan - the concavity of the decks is pointing in the wrong direction for a Tremblay! I am a great misser of the obvious!!!
