The Old Town canoe with serial number 143814 is a 16 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, Otca model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, a keel, a floor rack, and sponsons. It was built between January and April, 1946. The original exterior paint color was blue with a half inch white stripe and Greek ends. This may have looked like the one at
https://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design32.gif with the colors reversed. It shipped on May 2nd, 1946 to Lawrence, Massachusetts. The back side of the record indicates that it may have moved to Peabody by November, 1979 when there was a previous request for a copy of this build record. Scan showing both sides of this build record is shown below.
These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at
http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See
http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer this description doesn't match the canoe. This can may have the slat seats which were common when cane was not available due to the Second World War. Feel free to reply if you have any other questions.
