Curious about Wooden Canoes
We are working on repairs of an 11 foot Old Town, serial number 182011. We didn't even know they made an 11 foot! THanks for your help!

The Old Town canoe with serial number 182011 is an 11 foot long Light Weight model with a keel. It was built between November, 1968 and February, 1969. The original exterior canvas covering's paint color was dark green. It shipped on June 22nd, 1973 to the Carnelian Bay, California. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. The page at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/models.html indicates that there were an estimated total of 939 of these produced between 1927 and 1967 which works out to an average of about 23 per year. The form still exists so you might be able to special order one today. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck on the restoration,

Benson
