Finding Serial # on a 1930 Old Town Sailing Dinghy (11.5')

Hi folks - I've been over every square inch of my dad's 1930 Old Town sailing dinghy (11.5') and have yet to find the serial number (I looked under the mast step too). Any idea where I might find it? Many thanks in advance for your help!

The link below has a some suggestions. It is not unusual for the serial number to end up under the mast step or some other later addition in a sailing dinghy. The numbers may have been removed or it may not be from Old Town. Many other builders made similar dinghies. Good luck,

Many old wooden canoes and boats have a serial number on both inside stems and a decal or tag with the manufacturer's logo on the bow deck. The number is usually stamped on the top of the lower part of the stems. The inside stems are the long curved pieces of wood that form the ends of the canoe. You want to look on the part that extends out from under the decks on the bottom of the floor inside the hull. The serial numbers are stamped in each end of the canoe so check both if a single digit is not clear. These numbers in the stern of boats are occasionally on the edge of the center...

Thank you for this older post Benson. There is an "Old Town Dinghy" logo on the bow that looks to be original. I'll go back again and check the stems.

A circa 1930s dinghy should have a black bar on the logo and it may say either boat or dinghy. It may be newer if it has the red bar version. The link below shows some examples. Good luck,

We just got in two Old Town Canoes for auction in May, a 16 footer with S/N 145575 and a 17' with S/N 154974. Do you have the history on these two fine canoes.
