Curious about Wooden Canoes
I recently refurbished an old wood and canvas canoe. The only clue as to its original maker was this serial number: ZLPE 02390883. Anyone have an idea who might have made it?

The USCG database shows the MIC "ZLP" belonging to Louis A. D. Picard of Village Huron, Loretteville, Quebec. See http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/mic_detail.aspx?id=ZLP for more details. Thanks for your reply. The photographs on dragonfly of the Louis Picard canoe match the details of my boat exactly.
Though the decks, outwales, stems and a portion of the inwales and wale caps were rotted and have been replaced, the bulk of this boat remains Huron construction.
True to your description it is a bit unrefined; not a show-boat but a sweet boat to paddle. It's a good feeling to know something of its history. Do you know how long Picard was building?
