Would Like To Identify ...who built this canoe
I have refinished this canoe and have wondered since purchasing it what make and model it may be.It is a big canoe and very stable. Also quite easy to handle in the water and able to hold a good amount of weight with lots of freeboard.
I had heard that this boat was purchased in 1939-40 and brought to northern Ontario.
Length ....... 16'
High end..... 25"
Width........ 36 1/2"
Depth........ 14"
The ribs are 1 3/4" x 5/16" with 1 1/2" spacing. There are 4" cant ribs at bow and stern also.
This canoe has no numbers anywhere that I was able to locate.
I have heard it could be a high end Peterborough Champlain or a Canadian Chestnut/Old Town but not sure ?
I am still needing help in identifying this canoe.........
Thanks
Mark
