Hoping to tap the collective wisdom here. I’ve got a wood-canvas canoe with a punched-through hole in the hull — a couple of cracked cedar planks and torn/split canvas, looks like it’s over a rib or two. Otherwise the canoe is in good shape. Photos attached.
I’m in Minaki, Ontario (about 45 min north of Kenora, ~2 hrs east of Winnipeg). With Doug Ingram at Red River Canoe & Paddle now retired, I’m not sure who’s still doing this kind of work in Manitoba or NW Ontario.
Two questions:
1. Does anyone know a restorer or skilled builder in the Winnipeg / Kenora / NW Ontario area who’d take on a repair like this?
2. If it comes to it, is this a reasonable guided-DIY job?
It’s a canoe I want done properly, so I’d rather get it right than have someone glass over it. Any leads appreciated. Thanks!
