Unrepentant Canoeist
On May 24th, Sandy Bate, Jerry Karbon, Jesse Souza and I met at the WCHM, equipped to display some wooden canoes and distribute WCHA literature (thanks to Annie for the box of flyers and back issues!). In our booth were a Willits, a 1912(1915?) OTCA with sailing rig, a 1991 LoonWorks Button, and Jerry's self-designed and built solo canoe.
The show area was packed with wooden canoes and other wooden boats, with several canoes and small boats set up in the overflow area. I'd guess well over 200 attendees filtered through the show. A lot of people stopped by our booth, and a lot of WCHA flyers and literature made its way into attendees' hands.
Of interest to me was the display of Old Town HW #52727, which I had donated to the Museum, in unrestored condition, about 4 years ago. The Museum auctioned it off as a fundraiser; Mike Johnson bought it, did a quite nice restoration, then sold it, and the new owners had it on display. I met the new owners, and they are enjoying the canoe immensely!
This event was a lot of fun; we should plan to do this more often!
