Willits gathering in Gig Harbor - report

Phil Miller and a group of Willits Bros. canoe enthusiasts held a gathering this past weekend in Gig Harbor, WA, and the results were apparently wonderful. Held in and around the Antique Airplane Museum at the Tacoma Narrows Airport, a crowd of beautiful Willits canoes - restored and unrestored - dressed up a hangar full of vintage airplanes! A crew of paddlers put a raft of Willits on the water too. Chris Eden, editor of the Wooden Canoe Journal was one of those in attendance and he brought along his cameras to record the event. Some of his images are below. Paddling canoes, sailing canoes with full sailing rigs, early Willits and later ones... much of the Willits Brothers variety and many of their accessories were on display.

Phil also sent along some images of his two Willits Bros. canoes on top of his vintage Chevy pickup truck. These photos were taken at a vintage car show back in June, and Phil reports that people formed a long line to talk with him about the canoes, even with that gorgeous truck underneath!

Thanks for the look, Phil and Chris. Sure wish I could have been there.
