Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hello, after my miss on the Lakefield, I have found a lovely cedar canoe, 16ft according to the seller, with the original bamboo mast and cotton sail, but missing the daggerboards - if there had been any - and rudder. It's made of white cedar, and that and the position of the mast make me think of a Canadian rather than French built canoe. According to the seller there's no decal or thwart tag. He's a bit far but coming my way in a couple of weeks, could bring me the canoe if I want it. I have more pics and it looks in excellent condition throughout, with only two @&à&! rubbing keels which does not look French either.
Thanks for your help, Pat

Very Pretty. I would think a Lakefield or Peterborough and knowing the propensity for Peterborough exports overseas I would assume a 20's Pete.
