What Wood?

I referring to the long flat thwart/bench seats usually on square stern Old Towns. Looking at the one here in the shop I think it's spruce. Long straight grain and light weight. I don't have a build sheet in front of me. So I was wondering if it's noted on some of them or if anyone knows what wood was typically used for those seats. Thanks, Dave

It would not be unusual for them to use spruce on a square stern seat. The link below shows a build record where that has been specified. Good luck,

Old Town - Serial # 98328

I was hoping someone may be able to provide some information on an antique Old Town Canoe (circa 1928) with the serial # 98328. Could also be 93328, 98329 or 93329? I believe it is either a sea model or a square stern canoe with a long deck. See photo. Any help would be much appreciated!
