Hello

I'm a new member and must say that this is a great resource!

I am in the process of restoring my grandfather's old town square stern model canoe that he unfortunately covered with fiberglass quite a while ago. Lots and lots (and lots) of work getting the resin off but i am actually just finishing up with that part of the restoration.

Wondering if someone can help me out with the build record or any other info that i can get about it?

Serial Number 63755 16 (It's hard to make out the first number but i believe that is correct).

Thanks Much!
Scott

The Old Town canoe with serial number 63755 is a 16 foot long, CS grade, square stern model with western red cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, a keel, outside stems, a floor rack, and sponsons. It was built between November, 1920 and January, 1921. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on February 9th, 1921 to Chicago, Ill. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or contribute to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

More information is available at the Virtual Bookstore at http://virtualbooks.wcha.org/ and at http://www.dragonflycanoe.com/cdrom.htm on the Complete Old Town Canoe Company Catalog Collection CD.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson
