I have been looking for info on my old freighter and posted some pics awhile back looking for any id on the builder. I had some luck through the DNR records. The faded numbers on the canvas were sent in and they had a record of the boat. Although I dont know what to make of them.The records state the year was 1945 and the make to be a HUDS. Is that an abbreviation for hudson? There was no hull ID on the record. I hope someone can set me straight.

The Detroit Boat Company made a Hudson model canoe as described and shown at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?9613 if that helps. Good luck,

I got this canoe from an old timer that bought it from a hunting guide in northern Manitoba. He said it was made by a well known builder up in those parts. Could the HUDS listed as maker be Hudsons Bay Company? HBC operated a canoe factory in Rupert. They list a 20 footer as the Rupert model. Boy I could sure use some help on this fellas. Bob
