Thompson Indian

Canoe Builder
Finished my latest project a 1939 18ft Thompson Indian (date was written on planking under the canvas). I would like to find a deck nameplate for it if possible. I bought it from a couple in Boise, Id. who used it extensively until it was to heavy to manage. They had inherited it from their Uncle who bought it new in Wisconsin and used it for trapping and hunting. It was in pretty good shape for it's age. There was a little rot in the stem ends, replaced seven ribs, a little planking and new thwarts. I added a carrying thwart as I often canoe with just my dog who is not much help carrying the boat.

Thompson tags show up on eBay occasionally but you may need to buy a whole canoe or boat to get one. See https://www.ebay.com/itm/284326784458 for an example. I can provide a high resolution scan if you want to get a reproduction made. A local engraver or trophy shop may be able to help with this. Good luck,

Benson

Thanks to Dave Osborn and Russ Hicks. The tag looks great. Ice out on the lake so got a first paddle of the year in. I will be taking the boat to the Northwest Chapter's spring meet next week.

Not sure if they did, I suspect it was more a "get the most" out of a piece of wood thing
and either who was doing the cutting or maybe the factory process.
I did go look at few others I have pics of, a couple were of the same orientation,
but there also was one that was more on the canoe centerline. Who knows?
